Data Methodology
Where our data comes from, how we validate it, and when it was last updated.
Relocate Ireland publishes data-driven guides and town profiles for people moving to Ireland. This page documents how we collect, validate, and update the data that appears across the site. We are committed to accuracy and transparency: if you find an error, please contact us.
Commute times
Source
Commute times shown in town profiles are derived from the TFI (Transport for Ireland) Journey Planner and verified against Irish Rail and Bus Éireann published timetables. Rail times reflect scheduled journey time on peak weekday morning services (typical 07:30–09:00 departure), excluding wait time at the departure station.
Methodology
- Rail commute times use door-to-station walking estimates of 5–10 minutes plus published scheduled journey time to Dublin Connolly, Heuston, or city centre stations as appropriate.
- Bus commute times use Bus Éireann commuter route timetables for direct services only. Routes requiring transfers are noted.
- Where a town has multiple transport options, we show the fastest available mode.
- Commute times do not account for delays, service disruptions, or on-board crowding.
Update cadence
Commute data is reviewed quarterly and updated when Transport for Ireland publishes revised timetables. Last reviewed: Q1 2026.
Rent data
Source
Average rent figures for town profiles and the Cost of Living guide are sourced from the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) Rent Index. The RTB Rent Index is the most comprehensive and authoritative source of Irish rental data, covering all registered new tenancies.
Where RTB data is not available at town level (due to small sample sizes), we supplement with publicly listed properties on Daft.ie and MyHome.ie, using median listed rents over a 90-day window.
Update cadence
The RTB publishes the Rent Index quarterly. We update our rent figures following each quarterly publication. Current data reflects RTB Rent Index Q4 2025, published February 2026.
Limitations
RTB data reflects registered tenancies, which may not capture very recent market movements. Listed rents on property portals can differ from agreed rents. Our figures represent typical ranges, not guarantees. Actual rents vary by specific property, condition, and availability.
Schools data
Source
School listings across the site are derived from the Department of Education Primary and Post-Primary School Database (the WSE database), accessed via data.gov.ie. This dataset covers all state-funded schools in Ireland.
Data included per school: school name, roll number, county, patron body (Catholic, Church of Ireland, Educate Together, multi-denominational, etc.), and school type (primary / secondary).
What we do not include
We do not publish school inspection ratings, league tables, or comparative performance data. This is a deliberate editorial choice — Irish school league tables are not published by the Department of Education, and publishing unofficial rankings would be misleading. We encourage parents to visit prospective schools and consult the Department of Education inspection reports.
Update cadence
Schools data is reviewed annually, following the Department of Education's annual update to the school database.
Town population data
Source
Population figures for Irish towns are sourced from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) Census of Population 2022, the most recent full census. Where 2022 census data is available at Settlement level, we use that figure. Where we reference intercensal estimates, we note this.
Update cadence
Population data will be updated following the next CSO Census publication.
